Balancing High School part time work part 3

Balancing High School
Part-Time Work
Part 3
Brad MacGowan of the Career Center at Newton North High School in Massachusetts, thinks that working can be a valuable part of a student’s life if taken on responsibly.” You can derive a great deal from working considerably more than just money,” He says “In Most cases you can acquire a nice dose of discipline and a whole new set of skills and experiences.” In Addition your supervisor may be willing to write a strong college recommendation for you.
School Comes First
Schoolwork including homework and studying for test should always be your top priority. MacGowan coutions students who do decide to work, if you are rushing through your assignments … or not studying enough for test because of work it’s time to cut back or quit and find a less time-consuming job.”

Balancing High School And Part -- Time work part 2

Balancing High School and
Part – time Work
Part 2
Voiceing your goals to Someone else can help you make decisions and figure out your priorities. Its can also help you judge whether you can do both – work and study – successfully. To help answer this question, ask yourself:
·         Am I an organized person ?
·         What kind of study habits do I have?
·         Do I make good use of my available time?
·         Will I able to manage my schedule effective if I take on a part-time job?
Think about the pros and cons of working. On the plus side a job can teach you about commitment time management and responsibility – and, of course handing money on the minus side, a job can cut into the time you have for sleeping, studying and socializing.

My opinion is that those parents did wrong it’s a very bad what they did to that girl. And I think the parents deserve a good punishment. They choose the wrong.

part 1

http://www.collegeboard.com/student/plan/high-school/45266.html

Like many high school students you may want -- or need -- to work part time. working takes a lot of time and energy though so before getting a job make sure that you think about your ability to handle both work and your education.

Important considerations
you have to weight a number of factors when deciding whether to take on a part--time job. it's important to get as much information as possible so you can figure out what choice makes the most sense for you.
Schedule a meeting with your school counselor to discuss the idea of working. talk to your school counselor about why you want to work and what type of position you're seeking.

“If it is not right, do not do it; if it is not true, do not say it.”

Marcus Aurelius

Roman emperor from 161 AD to 180 AD

Reflection: I think this quote means that what you do must be true because if it not just don’t say that you do. That is why when you do something wrong you say that you did something wrong when you did something right just say that you did something right or they will know that you did something right.

TIS THE SET OF THE SAIL

Tis the set of the sail
Ella wheeler wilcox 1916
But to every mind there openeth,
A way and a way and away.
A high soul climbs the highway,
And the low soul gropes the low.
And in between on the misty flats, the rest drift to and fro.

but to every man there openeth,
A high way and a low
And every mind decideth,
the way his soul shall go.

One ship sails east,
And another west,
By the self-same winds that blow
"Tis the set of the sails
And not the gales,
That tells the way we go.
Like the winds of the sea
Are the waves of time,
As we journey along through life,
"Tis the set of the soul,
That determines the goal, And not the calm or the strife.

Recommended Classes for College success
Part 1
The academic rigor of your high school courses is an important factor in the college admission process. College admission officers see your high school coursesschedule as a blueprint of your education. They’re looking for a solid foundation of learning that you can build on in college.
To create that foundation, take at least five solid academic classes every semester. Start with the basic and then move on to advanced courses. Challenging yourself is a part of what maked school fun; but you need to firm grasp of the fundamentals before going on to more advanced work.

THE POWER OF STUDY GROUPS PART 1

The Power of Study Groups

Part 1

Working together helps everyone

You may have noticed that when you’re explaining something you’ve learned to a friend, you begin to understand it better yourself. This happens because, when you explain an idea, you need to think more deeply about it.

The same principles make studying groups useful. Studying with others in small groups is helpful because you:

·       Think out loud.

·       Share ideas

·      Learn from one Another
In an effective study groups you and other students hash out lesson materials together—explaining concepts arguing about them, figuring out why one person’s answer differs from another’s—and in the process, you most likely learn more than you would have studying by yourself.

How to take on college Studying part 3

How to Take on College Studying

Part 3

Do the reading.

You need to do more than read the chapters you are assigned – you’re expected to understand then thoroughly. Here are some tips:

·       Don’t skim. Read all the materials carefully.

·       Break up difficult assignments into sections you can digest --- chapters, subsection, or even paragraphs.

·       Look up any word that you don’t understand.

·       Pause to think about whether you understand the material; ask questions in class about anything that is unclear.

·       Take notes instead of highlighting – this makes you think through and rephrase the key points.

·       Create a summary sheet of what you learned from each assignment you read.
